Annotated Summary

In the article, "SmartHalo's Locking Mechanism," SmartHalo Technologies Inc. (2016) has stated that they have designed a locking mechanism for the SmartHalo bicycle accessory. The article describes that an arrangement of carefully placed magnets and pivots provides a key with a unique magnetic identification. The article describes that in order to prevent the theft of bicycles and accessories, a handful of companies which deal in bicycle accessories implement tamper proof screws to secure devices which unfortunately need to be removed to recharge the devices. Thus due to the occasional theft and the dissatisfaction towards removing a bicycle accessory after each journey, SmartHalo's locking mechanism replaces the need for these tamper proof screws. The article also states that the device can be removed roughly within two seconds as the user only has to align the special key to the right side of the device and the device can then be removed. SmartHalo Technologies Inc. is confident that "Without the key, SmartHalo is virtually unstealable." and that their solution can completely prevent theft.

This article serves as a helpful source of information for the team's design proposal on the implementation of a magnetic locking mechanism for mounting Garmin devices. The locking mechanism the team proposes to implement provides better security and ease of mind for customers.
